Men 02:30
Men in the public eye Not showing their weakness Just fear of bleakness Men in the public eye Is that why You never cry? With no smile for the quiet guys From those men in the public eye Men in the public eye They fear female engagement Preferring enragement Men in the public eye Come unto us And unload No lines for the feminine guys From those men in the public eye I know you must Not feel the rush Of your ego crushed For you never trust The other point of view What they’re going through Far from the public eye Men in the public eye Is that all you’ve got? I know it’s not A crime to cry In the public eye Let your cheek burn So much to learn Without a smile for the lonely guys Those men in the public eye You were meant to feel Were meant to breathe Were meant to be If you could just see That’s there’s a thing or two You can learn from her In the public eye

Break the spirit, break it down Hold it in your hand, turn it around Let it fall between your fine fingers Then pick it up and start over again A spoken thought, is a new object A series of pieces, begging to be touched To be moulded and cherished A warmth that will soften, and not judge Break the spirit, break it down Hold it in your hand, turn it around Let it fall between your sore fingers Then pick it up and start over again Break the patterns, cross that line Run your finger, over the edge Let it rest, on a new piece of colour On a new piece of colour, draw a new line Break the spirit, break it down Hold it in your hand, turn it around Let it fall between your fine fingers Then pick it up and start over again

The Hip Scam 03:45
I walk with my heel high. An instant glow look in my eye. I talk so I can be heard and so I can’t hear you cry. I’ve resources and I can walk away any time that I like. You will not notice me wearing your heart on my sleeve. You will see me arrive but you won’t see me leave. You’re stuck in this town until the day you die. (long after I slip away). IT’S SAD DAY FOR SELF LOVERS EVERWHERE THE KIDS ARE BABY-FACED THIS IS THE HIP SCAM (This is the hip scam) I bring my Miyaki swirl, a privileged boy, and a handsewn girl, then “poof” I disappear. I feel iconic and turn to stone. (it’s so ironic I’m never alone).

about

Over the past nine months of songs, I've been working on an album of songs. I'm now sharing it with you. It's finished and partial. It's bouncy and melodic.
I like it, most of the time. Have a listen!
Link in bio + acityofdreams.bandcamp.com/releases.

I played, recorded and mixed it at my Dream Bureau studio at Open School East in Margate, with additional voice and violin (the brilliant Claire Orme) recording at Prah Foundation (thank you Stephen), and Aram Zarikian's wonderful drums recorded at his studio in Hastings.

I've been working with song a lot in my other work over the past year or so, and this collection was a necessary dive into songcraft. It's pretty trad. It's nothing clever. Guitar, bass, drums, and organ. Tape delay and the occasional mellotron.

I play and write everyday, but not so much in public in recent years. That's shifting. Maybe it was the pandemic, but these songs were partly about safety. They are often earnest. I was writing about men, spirit, the town where I live and the power of the non-productive. My voice is upfront. And it's all dressed up in the guitar bands of my youth.

I'm making new songs that experiment more and expand in more collaborative and strange directions. That's next, stay tuned. But for now, it's this.

So, thank you to Aram for his rhythm and Claire for her strings. We were all octopus for moments when playing. Brains in our limbs.
